A United Airlines flight was forced to make an unplanned landing after a crack was found on the windshield of the plane.

The Boeing 737-800 jet departed Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas on Sunday morning was forced to divert from its destination of Dulles International Airport in Washington, DC, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

United Airlines Flight 1627 took off at 9.22am and was in the air for nearly three hours before landing unexpectedly at Denver International Airport, FlightAware shows.

It landed in Colorado around 1.10pm ‘after diverting due to a cracked windshield’, states the FAA.

United Airlines said the diversion occurred ‘due to a maintenance issue’.

‘After safely landing, customers deplaned normally and a plane change occurred,’ the airline told USA Today on Monday.

The 166 passengers and seven crew members transferred to a Boeing 737-900 jet which continued the trip to Dulles airport, departing roughly at 3pm. The flight got to its original destination around four hours after it was scheduled to arrive.
