A Scottish councillor has been forced to drop out of a race to potentially become an MP after ‘concerns’ were raised about his ‘satanic’ novels.

Altany Craik, a veteran Fife Labour councillor, had been vying to unseat the SNP’s Peter Granta and become MP for Glenrothes ahead of the General Election.

But Labour officials feel his 16 books are too spooky for constituents of the central Scotland region to handle, sources told The Courier.

The county council’s finance spokesperson will say he’s dropping out of the race for ‘family reasons’.

The councillor has written more than a dozen supernatural horror and traditional fantasy stories filled with seemingly murdered priests, crooked Popes, sneaky monsters and anti-Christ-ignited ‘eternal wars’.

‘They’re saying he’s not a suitable candidate because his books are too sexy and satanic,’ the insider told the regional newspaper.

They added: ‘He’s been allowed to stand in the past but he’s now suddenly being told he’s not suitable because of books he’s been writing for about 15 years.’

According to his page on Amazon, Craik’s most popular books are Innocence Lost, which features a pentagram on the front cover, and In the Shadow of St Giles.

Both are part of his The Father Steel series which follows Father Andrew- you guessed it – Steel as he solves ghostly crimes against the Church in central Scotland.

‘This book has graphic descriptions of gore, mutilation, rape, and foul language,’ stressed one reviewer, who gave St Giles five stars.

‘But getting past that, it is a worthwhile read.’

First elected in 2012 for the Glenrothes West and Kinglassie ward, he has since become the second most senior official in the Kingdom’s Labour-led administration.

Having previously thrown his hat into the ring to stand as an MSP, Craik had been shaking hands to get enough support from Labour members to be picked as the party’s candidate Glenrothes at the UK General Election expected next year.

But the internal contest has now been suspended after Scottish Labour intervened, enraging Craik’s colleagues, it was reported.

‘It’s absolutely disgusting,’ the source added, stressing that Craik’s public statement about the news won’t tell the ‘full picture’.

A spokesperson for Scottish Labour said: ‘Selection processes for Scottish Labour parliamentary candidates are properly administered in full accordance with procedures set by the Scottish Executive Committee.’

Altany Craik has been approached for comment.
