Romania: Cargo ship ‘explodes after hitting sea mine’ in Nato territory | World News
A cargo ship collided with a ‘mine’ in the Romanian side of the Danube River, triggering an explosion on board.
Footage shared on Twitter shows the ongoing evacuation of the 12 crew members who were on board at the time of the incident in the early hours of this morning.
The vessel, sailing under the fag of Togo, sent a Mayday emergency call, moments after the blast.
Coast guards based at the port of Sulina, the easternmost point of Romania, were deployed to rescue the crew.
Local media reported the explosion happened in the engine room after the vessel allegedly hit a sea mine.
It is still unclear if anyone was injured in the incident, and the origin of the mine.
