Baby dies after woman put her in the oven by accident | US News

A baby girl died after her mother put her down for a nap in an oven by mistake, according to a US prosecutor.

Maria Thomas, of Kansas City, Missouri, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child.

Police were called to reports a baby was not breathing on Friday and the child was pronounced dead at the scene.

A probable cause statement said responders found the child with apparent burns.

Responders were told by a witness that the mother ‘put the child down for a nap and accidentally placed her in the oven instead of the crib,’ the statement added.

It did not explain how the mistake was made.
