US drone strike in Iraq kills militia leader linked to Jordan attack | US News

The US launched a drone attack in Iraq that killed a commander of a militia considered a key suspect in the Jordan attack that took three American soldiers’ lives.

US forces struck a car Baghdad on Wednesday night that killed the high-ranking commander of the Kataib Hezbollah militia.

Three people died including the commander Wissam Muhammad Sabir Al-Saadi, who is also known as Abu Baqir ‘Abu Bakr’ Al-Saadi and was in charge of the Kataib Hezbollah in Syria, said two officials with Iran-backed militias. Kataeb Hezbollah stated that Abu Bakr’s died ‘following the bombing of the American occupation forces’.

US officials said they initially found the attack killed one individual and that no civilians were injured.

‘There are no indications of collateral damage or civilian casualties at this time,’ stated the US Central Command, adding that America ‘will not hesitate to hold responsible all those who threaten our forces’ safety’.

The attack came five days after the US launched airstrikes in Iraq and Syria in retaliation for the drone strike in Jordan in late January that killed three American soldiers in container housing units.
