Huge fire in Liverpool leaves building ‘showing signs of collapse’ | UK News

A major incident has been declared after a huge fire ripped through a building in Liverpool leaving it at risk of collapse.
The four-storey building was described as being ‘well alight’ by the time firefighters arrived on the scene on Fox Street in the city centre shortly before 2.30pm.
There have been no reports of casualties so far and police officers have been going door-to-door evacuating those close by.
The fire service is urging people to avoid the area and nearby residents and businesses to close windows and doors.
Within 90 minutes of their arrival a major incident was declared after the building showed signs of collapse.
A cordon is in place around the building and the wider area, and roads have been closed including Fox Street, Rose Place, Great Richmond Street, Richmond Brow, Netherfield Road South, Everton Brow and Prince Edwin Street.
By 5pm, it was no longer classed as a major incident and the main body of the fire had been extinguished.
A statement on Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service’s website says: ‘The building is showing signs of collapse and fire crews are evacuating buildings.
‘The incident is ongoing. Please avoid the area. Residents and businesses nearby should close windows and doors.’
Anyone with an existing health condition is advised to keep medicines nearby and call NHS 11 if any ill effects occur.
