Footage shows the moment flames started shooting out of a plane moments after it took off.

The Boeing 747-8 cargo jet appeared to suffer an engine fire shortly after leaving Miami International Airport on Thursday night.

It was forced to make an emergency landing and returned to the airport 14 minutes after take-off with no casualties.

Bosses blamed a ‘malfunction’ for the incident and said the crew ‘followed all standard procedures’.

The fault was addressed in time for the plane to resume its journey to Puerto Rico later that evening.

Boeing’s reputation for safety is in the midst of a crisis following an incident involving another of its airliners earlier this month.

A 737 Max 9 passenger jet was forced to make an emergency landing after part of its fuselage blew off shortly after taking off from Portland, Oregon, on January 5.

The US air regulator grounded 171 aircraft for safety checks as a result.

Boeing shares are down around 15% in the wake of the incident.
