Oscar Pistorius ‘never showed any remorse’, Reeva Steenkamp’s mum says | World News
Pistorius has ‘never told the truth’ or shown remorse for murdering Reeva Steenkamp, the mother of the South African model has said.
In her first interview since Pistorius was released on parole, June Steenkamp rejected the excuses given by her daughter’s killer.
At trial, Pistorius claimed he fired his licenced 9mm pistol at a bathroom door in his home because he believed an intruder had locked himself behind it.
June told Good Morning Britain: ‘He lost his temper, he’s got no control over his temper.
‘And he lost his temper because she said: “I’m leaving, and I don’t want to be involved with you.”
‘Her clothes were packed and everything.’
She believes Pistorius must have intended to kill Reeva as he loaded his gun with special bullets designed to cause maximum damage.
Ballistics experts said the ‘Black Talon’ hollow-point ammo – which had been discontinued a decade earlier following a string of controversies – would have expanded on impact into six sharp claws which cut through Reeva’s organs.
June added: ‘Those (bullets) go into your body and they break your bones.
‘So why would he use those bullets if he didn’t in the first place want to kill her? Because he knew that she was in the toilet, because they’d had a huge argument or whatever.’
Reeva’s mum, who is originally from Lancashire, is now also grieving for her husband Barry, who died in his sleep aged 80 in September.
She said Barry died ‘of a broken heart’ inflicted on him by their daughter’s death, leaving her numb to the controversy over Pistorius’ release last Friday after nine years in jail.
‘He’s on parole now and it’s not going to make any difference to my life — he’s done what he’s done already and I can’t do anything about that,’ June continued.
‘I’ve lost the most beautiful, wonderful child. But he’s never told the truth, I don’t believe he’s ever told the truth at all. And he’s never shown any remorse.’
Pistorius was granted an early release from prison after a parole board review determined the 37-year-old was fit for social reintegration.
It’s rumoured he is now almost unrecognisable, with reports suggesting prison has turned him into a ‘grey’ and ‘bloated’ smoker.
