Gangster taunted rivals on video days before he was shot dead at pub | UK News
A gangster filmed himself winding up rival gangs just days before he was shot dead outside a pub in Edinburgh on New Year’s Eve.
Marc Webley was gunned down near the Anchor Inn shortly before midnight in the Granton area of the city in what police described as a ‘targeted’ attack.
The 38-year-old’s death is being treated as murder after he suffered a fatal head wound and another man, 39, who was injured in the shooting is in a serious but stable condition in hospital.
In the days leading up to Webley being killed, he recorded videos in response to an attempted attack on him where a car mounted a pavement and tried to mow him down.
Webley specifically mentioned other gangland figures including one who had a long-running feud with the Richardson family, reports the Daily Record.
He also mentioned a gangster who was named in court as ordering the hit on Trainspotting T2 star Bradley Welsh who was shot dead outside his house by Sean Orman, 30, in 2019.
‘Do I look scared?’ Webley said to the camera in footage thought to be aimed at a gangland family. ‘Never. Yous all looked up to me, your boss looked up to me, remember that.’
Taking a dig at an alleged enemy, he made rude gestures with his hand and continued: ‘Oh, how are you, Marc? You’re good at that ya f****** fat p**f.
‘You’re a chicken. You wish your brothers were violent like mine.
‘Me and my brothers will be remembered for being violent. Your brothers are chickens.’
He then goes on to appear to be mocking the death of Mr Welsh, who was known for being part of the Hibernian football hooligan gang Capital City Service in the 1980s and early 90s.
‘RIP Brad Welsh,’ he says. ‘Ha, ha, ha. Shot to the head. Duh do duh do, tick, tick, f****** boom. Tell someone that gives a f***. Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.’
The first part of the video showed Webley walking along a street in Granton carrying a bag.
He’s heard saying: ‘What’s in the manbag? Come and find out. Come and get it. Tick, tick, boom. Ha, ha.’
And in the second clip, Webley looks to be inside a pub near a pool table wearing a Christmas-themed T-shirt with ‘ho ho ho’ written on the front.
Britain’s youngest ever Euromillions winner Jane Park had reportedly been in a relationship with him and only ended it with him three weeks ago.
She said on social media: ‘I can’t believe I’m writing this, we spoke yesterday. If I could cuddle you again and tell you everything is going to be okay, I would give anything to do it Marc.
‘The months we spent together, you taught me some valuable things in life and I will never forget you. I am absolutely devastated. The best bed for you is up there. My handsome.’
In 2005, Webley and another man named James Tant were both sentenced to 11 years in prison at Glasgow High Court for an attempted murder in Edinburgh earlier that year.
Webley, who was 19 at the time, shot another man in Granton in what was described as a failed gangland hit.
It’s understood that Webley had told close friends that he was expecting to be attacked and had been carrying weapons wherever he went.
Police Scotland confirmed it was called to reports of two men being seriously injured after a firearm was discharged in Granton Crescent at around 11.50pm on Sunday, December 31.
Detective superintendent Graham Grant said: ‘This is believed to have been a targeted incident and our thoughts and condolences are with the family and friends of both men involved.
‘Enquiries are at a very early stage to establish the full circumstances surrounding what happened, and while officers have already gathered CCTV and spoken to various people who were in the area at the time, I’d urge anyone with information who hasn’t yet spoken to us to come forward.
‘In particular if anyone has private CCTV, doorbell footage or dashcam of the Granton Crescent/Road area around the time of the incident, please bring it to our attention.
‘This incident will undoubtedly have caused concern in the local community and officers will be carrying out extra patrols of the area and I’d like to reassure the public that everything possible is being done to trace whoever is responsible.’
