Melania Trump ‘wants fired Fox News host Tucker Carlson as Donald’s VP’ | US News
Former First Lady Melania Trump reportedly wants her husband to choose an ousted Fox News host as his 2024 running mate.
Ex-President Donald Trump has been speaking openly with friends on candidates to be his vice president. A handful of names of Republican politicians have been tossed around, but Melania’s pick at the moment is an ‘interesting twist’, according to Axios on Thursday.
Melania believes her husband should go with Tucker Carlson, a Fox News star who was fired by the media organization in April.
‘She thinks Carlson would make a powerful onstage extension of her husband,’ Axios reported based on an unnamed source close to Trump.
With less than a month until the presidential election, Melania has not made many appearances with her hsuband.
‘But a Trump-Carlson ticket might encourage her to hit the trail,’ Axios wrote.
Trump recently said he is open to the idea of Carlson as his vice president.
‘I like Tucker a lot. I guess I would consider him,’ Trump said on The Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show a month ago. ‘He’s got great common sense.’
Carlson had not emerged on Trump’s shortlist for VP in part because Trump’s team knows that the news personality cannot be controlled. Other people close to Trump also doubted that he would select a running mate ‘who could outshine him’.
Fox News dismissed Carlson despite his popular politics show after a lawsuit from Dominion Voting Systems showed that the host disparaged executives and other employees at the network in emails and texts.
The communications also showed that Carlson said he ‘passionately hated’ Trump and that he was a ‘disaster’ of a president.
But in an interview in late November, Carlson endorsed Trump.
‘I became an active Trump supporter when they raided Mar-a-Lago last summer. That just can’t stand,’ Carlson told Roseanne Barr on her podcast.
‘I’m voting for Trump, and if they convict him, I will send him the max donations and I will lead protests. That’s how I feel.’
A Trump campaign aide denied Axios’ report regarding Melania.
‘The Axios story is pure fiction,’ the aide told the New York Post.
‘Unless there is a formal announcement from President Trump or his campaign team, then it’s just speculation and not coming from us. President Trump is solely focused on winning the Republican nomination and then defeating Crooked Joe Biden in the general election.’
Names that have been mentioned as possible running mates for Trump include Rep Byron Donalds, Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene, former TV anchor and Senate candidate Kari Lake, South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem, Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders and Senator JD Vance.
