Barcelona: Woman wins £20,000 from bakery despite urinating in bowls | World News
A lucky worker has won £20,000 from a bakery she worked for despite urinating in mixing bowls.
Catalonia’s High Court ruled the bakery, Neucroissant, in Barcelona, Spain, acted unlawfully by gathering evidence from a camera in a changing room.
Footage showed the woman crouched down, urinating on several occasions into containers used to make the bakery’s goods.
Neucroissant hired a detective company to track her moves which confirmed she had ‘squatted and urinated inside a bowl’.
She threw the urine into a sink before washing the container out with water, the detective company alleged.
It found the worker ‘deposited it with the rest of the clean utensils that were later to be used in production tasks for the consumption of customers’.
The woman, who has not been named, received a dismissal letter while on sick leave in 2018, something she decided to challenge in court.
And it worked in her favour because under Spanish law, cameras can’t be installed in areas staff use for recreation and rest.
Filming in places like changing rooms, dining rooms and toilets is a breach of privacy.
The court also heard the bakery did not have a designated changing room, meaning workers had to change in an area also used for production.
It was also heard how employees had not been told about the CCTV camera installation.
Neucroissant argued the camera was legitimate because it was installed in a food production area.
But the court were taking none of it and awarded the woman €25,336 (£21,100).
That’s one fortunate worker.
