A portion of the 9/11 Museum and Memorial in New York City was chained off after a man jumped into the North Tower Pool.

A person was hospitalized after leaping nearly 45 feet into the pool marking the former location of the North Tower of the World Trade Center in Manhattan.

The incident took place around 1.30pm on Monday afternoon, the NYPD said. The person was identified as a 33-year-old male.

The man was ‘taken out of the pool and brought to Bellevue Hospital,’ the NYPD told Metro.co.uk. He is currently being treated for an injury to his left leg.

The incident is still under investigation, and the man is currently not facing any charges.

It is unclear how the man was able to access the pool.

The Memorial, which opened on September 11, 2011, features two of the ‘largest manmade waterfalls in North America,’ according to the National Park Service.

Both pools are about one acre in size, and each feature two drops of down about 50 feet below the sidewalk.

This is a breaking story, check back for updates…
