Girl and woman found stabbed dead alongside dog with bag over its head | US News
A teenage girl and a woman were discovered stabbed dead in an apartment along with their pet dog.
Cops found a 14-year-old girl face down with head wounds and a 37-year-old woman believed to be her mother, slashed face up in the living room of a Brooklyn home around 2.30pm on Monday. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
In addition, a dog was found was found with a bag covering its head, two law enforcement sources told NBC New York.
A dispatcher in a 2.45pm call shared by Citizen could be heard warning officers: ‘Two females at the location, unconscious; blood is everywhere… they’ve been missing since Friday.’
Cops confirmed that a neighbor reported screaming coming from the home on Friday.
‘We heard screaming, the dog whimpering,’ the neighbor, Steve Schor, told NBC New York. ‘It sounds like someone was getting killed upstairs.’
Schor added that it was not clear if cops made contact with anyone that day at the apartment building on New York Avenue by Avenue D in Brooklyn’s East Flatbush neighborhood.
Cops were called on Monday after no contact was made by the family. A 38-year-old man who knew the woman and found the bodies was reportedly being questioned by cops.
Police did not immediately provide details on the slayings.
On Tuesday, law enforcement told the New York Post that the woman has been identified as Azalea Rivas and that her boyfriend broke the door of the apartment to discover the horrific scene. It may have been a murder-suicide, sources said.
It happened just two days after a three-year-old and two adults were killed when a shooting broke out over a dog sale in a Florida apartment complex, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. The three victims were among five people who went to a luxury apartment complex on Saturday night to meet with others regarding the dog.
