Where was Vladimir Putin when Prigozhin ‘died’? Enjoying a concert | World News
Vladimir Putin is enjoying a night out amid reports that Wagner paramilitary group Yevgeny Prygozhin was killed in plane crash.
Footage shows the Russian president at a concert dedicated to the anniversary of Soviet troops’ victory in the Battle of Kursk during World War II.
Another video showed him shaking hands with people attending the ceremony – all the while the business jet with 10 people on board plunged to the ground 60 miles northwest from Moscow.
As the news about the crash broke, Putin was seen smiling and going about his business as nothing had happened.
He hailed the heroes of Russia’s ‘special military operation’ in Ukraine during the event and shook the hands of army generals.
A convoy of 12 police cars with sirens on was spotted in Moscow at midnight local time.
Russian officials have said Prigozhin – who led the attempted mutiny in Russia in June – was on the private jet that crashed in the Tver region at around 6pm local time.
Since the aborted march on Moscow by his mercenaries began two months ago today, his future has been the subject of intense speculation.
Military experts began referring to the warlord as a ‘dead man walking’ for openly clashing with the Russian leader.
The Kremlin is yet to make an official statement about Prigozhin’s reported death and the plane crash.
