Police are investigating the ‘unexplained’ death of a man in his 70s the day after he visited a number of pubs.

Derbyshire Police was called to a home in Goyt Road, Whaley Bridge on Saturday afternoon (August 12) following reports a man had been found dead.

The force currently isn’t treating the death as suspicious – but they’re appealing for more information about the circumstances of his death.

The man’s family has been informed.

It’s believed he visited a number of pubs in the Whaley Bridge area on Friday evening (August 11). Police think he walked home after leaving The Cock pub at around 11.15pm.

Detective Inspector Steve Topham said: ‘At this time we are not treating the death as suspicious, but as unexplained and we are keeping an open mind.

‘We are working hard to trace the man’s movements in the last 24 hours before his death, and we would like to hear from anyone who may have noticed a man with injuries or something that didn’t seem quite right.’

Anyone with information, CCTV or dashcam footage is asked to get in touch.
