August bank holiday: Met Office reveals whether it will be hot weather | UK News

It’s probably fair to say that most of us haven’t exactly been feeling the love from the great British summertime this year, and so, the question on the lips of the nation is – will it be hot over the August bank holiday weekend?

Despite Europe dealing with a heatwave that has seen both wildfires and record temperatures, the UK’s weather has stayed (for the most part) extremely… meh.

Outside of the odd couple of days of sunshine, much of the country has experienced a mixture of clouds, rain, showers, and even the occasional thunderstorm over the last couple of months.

However, with the August bank holiday 2023 now firmly in our sights, could all that be about to change?

Here is what you need to know.

Will the August bank holiday be hot?

Despite some rumours that the UK might have been in store for better weather, the Met Office has, once again, largely crushed the hopes and dreams of staycationers all over the country.

Though longer-range forecasts are always subject to change, the Met Office has now issued its forecast covering August 24 to September 7, 2023.

They predict that ‘conditions are likely to remain changeable towards the end of August and into early September.

‘Some dry and settled spells are possible, but, overall, there is a slightly higher likelihood that conditions will be wetter than average during the period as opposed to drier.’

In even more pessimistic news, The Met Office go on to say: ‘Rainfall is likely to be a mixture of organised frontal rain and showers with some of the showers possibly turning thundery.

When it comes to the temperatures specifically, The Met Office does tell us of ‘the potential for fleeting warm or hot spells’ but goes on to state that, in general, ‘temperatures are likely to be around normal, or slightly warmer than average.’

If it helps, we were disappointed too.

When is the August bank holiday weekend?

Fortunately, the August bank holiday weekend is not far away.

The bank holiday is the last weekend of August, meaning (if you’re in a job that gets bank holidays off), you’ll get Saturday, 26, Sunday, 27, and Monday, August 28, to do as you please.
