Map shows flood warnings near London after heavy rain | UK News
Five areas of London are at risk of serious flooding as yet more heavy rain is forecast to hit the capital.
The Environment Agency has issued flood alerts across London in areas where rivers could overspill.
It is urging people to stay away from low lying footpaths and bridges, and not to drive through flood water.
A map shows where the highest risk areas in the capital are, and they include places near the River Lea and River Thames.
More heavy rain is expected to hit the capital tonight after it lashed down yesterday.
Areas at risk are spread all over the city. In the north they include Walthamstow, Tottenham and Edmonton.
There are concerns around the River Lea overspilling in these areas, just like it did in Hackney Wick last month.
The other low lying areas at risk are Goodmayes and Pinner.
These are both in south west London and back onto the River Thames.
A second alert has been issued for other parts of south west London where spring tides could see the Thames spill over.
Areas at risk of this include Richmond, Teddington and Twickenham.

Areas around the River Pinn in outer west London and River Roding which spans parts of east London and Essex could also be hit with floods because of the heavy rain.
5 flood alerts in London
- Loxford Water (Ilford, Goodmayes, Seven Kings)
- Middle River Roding (Loughton, Chigwell)
- Lower Lea tributaries (Enfield, Chesthunt, Tottenham, Edmonton, Walthamstow)
- River Pinn and Woodrings stream (Pinner, Ickenham)
- Tidal Thames riverside from Putney Bridge to Teddington Weir (Putney, Hammersmith, Chiswick, Brentford, Isleworth, Richmond, Twickenham, Teddington)
The Environment Agency said ‘flooding is possible’ and that people should ‘be prepared’, especially in the areas issued with alerts.
It said: ‘Further rainfall is forecast overnight. River levels are forecast to rise.
‘We will continue to monitor levels closely.
‘Avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses and do not attempt to walk or drive through flood water.’
It continued: ‘Flooding of low-lying roads and footpaths is expected, which may exist for one to two hours either side of high tide. Flooding of properties is not expected.
‘Astronomical tide levels are rising. The river flow at Teddington Weir is high for this time of year at 250 cubic metres per second and is rising. We anticipate the flows to remain high for the next five days.
‘We are closely monitoring the situation.’
There are worries around incidents like what happened on 5 January in Hackney Wick occurring again.
It saw 70 firefighters from the London Fire Brigade rush to the scene when the River Lea burst its bank on the west side.
