Moment police dramatically rescue man from a burning car | US News
The moment two police officers dramatically rescued a man from a burning car has been caught on camera.
Bodycam footage follows the US deputies as they run towards the vehicle – which is on fire at the front end – to find a man in the driver’s seat.
They break the windows and then one of them uses a knife to cut the seatbelt off as the man tries to pull his legs away from the encroaching flames.
Once free the man climbs into the back seat and one of the policemen can be heard shouting repeatedly, ‘Come on man, get out of the car!’ as he appears to stall.
They then help pull him out and get him to safety.
The rescue, which was shared by traffic news outlet Newnan Coweta Scanner Traffic (NCST) on Facebook, happened in Coweta County in Georgia on Thursday.
In a post alongside the video, NCST said the driver was taken to hospital with second and first degree burns.
They described the police officers, who are from Coweta County Sheriff’s Office, as ‘heroes’.
‘When faced with a real chance of personal danger they ran, without hesitation, to save a man they did not know,’ they said.
They explained that, according to Georgia State Patrol, the driver was in a Ford Edge and ‘approached a curve to the left but for unknown reason continued straight’.
They added: ‘The vehicle left the roadway, striking multiple mailboxes and trash cans before hitting a large tree. After hitting the tree, the vehicle came to rest on the east side of the roadway.
‘It’s here that the vehicle started on fire. As the deputies arrived on scene the video shows the front of the vehicle fully engulfed in flames.’
‘Without hesitation, both deputies ran to the burning car where they broke windows and cut the seatbelt holding the occupant, pulling him free of the vehicle moments before the back of the vehicle burst into flames.’
NCST said there were no other people in the car.
