Hero ‘burn both eyeballs’ saving kids from Clapham ‘acid’ attacker | UK News

A passerby who intervened to save a woman and two children from a chemical attack has been left with injuries to her eyes.
Abdul Shokoor Ezedi, 35, remains at large after the attack, in which 12 people were sprayed with an as-yet unidentified corrosive alkaline liquid.
It comes as reward of up to £20,000 has been offered by Metropolitan Police for information leading to the arrest of Ezedi.
Investigators believe there are people who know where he is who have not come forward – and have said anyone assisting him will face arrest.
Abdul Ezedi is wanted in connection with an attack in Clapham which left a woman critically injured.
According to The Sunday Times, a witness has apparently said his partner, a woman in her 50s, bravely intervened during the assault in an attempt to protect the intended victims – a woman and her two young daughters, who are believed to be known to Ezedi.
The brave passerby is reported to have sustained horrific injuries that left ‘both eyeballs’ burnt.
The family are understood to have been staying in a two-star hotel in Clapham where Ezedi, of Newcastle, tracked them down on Wednesday afternoon.
After dousing them with the chemical, the assailant is also reported to have tried to run the woman and slammed one of her daughters, just three years old, to the ground ‘like a rag doll.’
The partner of the woman who intervened has said: ‘We had no idea any substance was involved; only that the guy was clearly intent on hurting [the child].
‘He then went to pick the child up off the road to do it again, which is when my partner lunged in and tackled him, grabbing his leg and falling to the ground like a rugby tackle.’
He went on: ‘I have no doubt that if my partner had not jumped in then the child would no longer be with us, and if our other neighbours hadn’t immediately taken the family and washed them down then their injuries would have been far worse.’
A manhunt is currently underway for Ezedi, with the National Crime Agency drafted in last night.
It follows after police released footage on Saturday night of a raid staged at a home in Newcastle believed to be connected to the fugitive.
Empty containers with corrosive warning labels attached were found at the property.
Tests are currently being conducted to determine whether these held the same substances used in the attack.
Jon Savell, senior commander with the Metropolitan Police, has been quoted as saying: ‘Abdul Ezedi was last seen at King’s Cross Underground Station at 9PM on Wednesday, 31 January, where he boarded a Victoria Line train travelling southbound.
‘The police investigation to establish his subsequent movements and ultimately locate him is continuing at pace.’
He added: ‘I can assure the public that my colleagues and I are fully committed to using every available tool and tactic for as long as it takes to find Abdul Ezedi.
‘I am today urging the public to remain vigilant and to contact police immediately if they may have seen Ezedi or have information about him.’
