Brits are rushing to stock up on survival essentials in case of nuclear armageddon, an expert has warned.

Leigh Price, who owns a prepper store called The Bug Out in Bullith Wells, Powys, said people are signing up to survival courses, buying long-term food supplies, and water filters in preparation.

Since Russia invaded Ukraine, Leigh said sales have spiked because of anxiety about the war.

Leigh served in the army between 1991 and 1996 and opened his store during the coronavirus pandemic in 2020.

His store sells everything from army outfits to camping equipment and first aid kits.

‘I think the situation is on a knife edge at the moment,’ he told the Daily Star.

‘This is why you are seeing a lot of high-ranking officials telling the populations to prepare for a possible war and emergency situations.

‘They want to warn us without sparking panic. This is why it’s always slightly played down but in reality we are very close to things escalating.

‘The Scandinavian countries have been telling their people to prepare for war with Russia plus you have a new conflict brewing in the Middle East, and on top of that China and North Korea are beating the war drums.

‘It is looking tasty out there but we are unable to control what happens in the world and all we can control is what we can do for ourselves – and that is being prepared.’

It comes after the Doomsday Clock remained at 90 seconds from midnight which is the closest we has ever been from human annihilation and the world was warned to ‘pay attention’.

The threat of nuclear catastrophe has also ‘never been so great’ after Russia predicted ‘new rivers of blood will flow’ after building the world’s largest missile.

North Korea is also strengthening its nuclear arsenal, with leader Kim Jong-un ordering his military to destroy the US and South Korea.
