Three people have died and nine more have been injured after an airport hangar collapsed.
The steel-framed hangar at Boise Airport in Idaho collapsed at around 5pm on Wednesday.
Emergency services say everyone who was in the hangar has been accounted for – and of the nine people injured, five are in critical condition in hospital.
A crane also collapsed during the incident, and some of the victims were on a hoist or other elevated platforms when the structure fell.
Boise Fire Department operations chief Aaron Hummel said: ‘It was a very chaotic scene.
‘I don’t know what caused it, but I can tell you it was a pretty global collapse.’
Flights and other operations at Boise Airport weren’t impacted by the collapse, which Mr Hummel described as a ‘catastrophic’ and ‘large-scale collapse’ of the framework of the building.
The hangar is next to Jackson Jet Centre, which offers private airplane charters and maintenance, and planning records show permits to build a jet hangar.
Jackson Jet Centre chief executive Jessica Flynn said their ‘hearts go out to everyone affected by this horrific event’.
She added: ‘We do not know exactly what caused the hangar collapse.
‘Our focus now is on supporting our team and partners during this difficult time.’
