Man ‘burst into ex-girlfriend’s bedroom and stabbed her new lover 10 times’ | UK News
A man is accused of bursting into his ex-girlfriend’s bedroom and murdering her new lover.
Kaydon Prior, 23, says he stabbed Alicia Parrin’s new partner, Harrison Tomkins, 10 times in self defence after confronting the couple.
The jury at Lewes crown court were shown pictures of the blood soaked bed and knife at Miss Parrin’s flat after the attack on August 13 of last year.
Prior claims he and Mr Tomkins, 25, fought for the knife, and denied taking the knife to the flat with him, saying he’d left it there after using it to open packaging.
Earlier Miss Parrin, 21, described how Prior and Jason Curtis burst into her bedroom, before Prior pinned Mr Tomkins to the bead and started stabbing him.
Today Prior told the jury he and Mr Tomkins traded punches before he was knocked on his back on the bed.
He added: ‘Harrison then punched me with his right, in my head, around the side.
‘I began punching Harrison. He was blocking, he punched me in the jaw. That made my head ring, made me feel really weak.
‘That’s when I ended up on the bed. He’s over me and we’re trading punches.
‘He was bigger than me, he was stronger than me and I was vulnerable. Then, yeah the knife, the knife was in Harrison’s hand.
‘I’m on my back on the corner of the bed. I’ve put my hand up against his arm and tried to grab the blade.
‘I’ve kicked him and the knife ended up on the floor. As soon as the knife was dropped, we are still grappling and punching and we both ended up reaching for the knife and I managed to get it first because it’s closer to me.
‘I picked it up and I swung it at him, I stabbed him. He was still punching, he was still going.
‘I can’t get up, I carried on swinging the knife at him. I was scared, I was frightened.
‘I felt, he gets that knife before me, I’m not going to make it out of this room, not without at least being seriously hurt.’
Prior ran away after the attack and tried to phone Miss Parrin twice to find out if Mr Tomkins was OK – but she didn’t respond as she had already phoned 999.
When he couldn’t get through to Miss Parrin, Prior phoned his mum, explaining: ‘I was crying my eyes out. I was scared, I wanted advice.
‘My mum had advised me to go home, get changed, get my head in order and go to the f****** police station.’
Charlotte Newell KC for the defence asked him: ‘Why did you stab Harrison Tomkins?’
Prior replied: ‘I felt like I had no choice. The way he came at me with that knife, I was scared.’
Prior and Curtis deny murdering Harrison Tomkins at the flat in Crawley on August 13 last year.
Prior also denies beating Alicia Parrin and carrying an offensive weapon.
The trial continues.
