Flames leap from flat block as firefighters tackle Wembley blaze | UK News

Around 125 firefighters are at the scene of an enormous flat fire in Wembley, north-west London.

Footage from Elm Road show flames leaping from the roof of the block of flats and spilling out from the top-floor window.

Fire crews were first called to the building at 4.40pm, and were continuing to tackle the fire more than four hours later.

London Fire Brigade said the residents of the flat block had been evacuated and were ‘assisted by firefighters upon arrival’.

Residents in a four-storey block adjoining the flaming building were also evacuated as a precautionary measure.

People have been urged to avoid the area while crews are responding to the incident, while those living locally have been advised to keep their windows and doors shut.

There are currently no reports of any injuries.

A statement from the fire brigade said: ‘One of the Brigade’s 32 metre turntable ladders is being used as a water tower to help extinguish the fire.

‘Control Officers have taken eight calls reporting the fire, with the first received at 4.42pm.

‘Firefighters from Wembley, Park Royal, Northolt and surrounding fire stations are at the scene.’

The cause of the fire is currently not known.
