Monkey on the loose after escaping Highlands zoo in Scotland | UK News
A monkey is on the run in the Scottish Highlands after escaping from a zoo.
The Japanese macaque found a way out of its enclosure at the Highland Wildlife Park in the town of Kingussie on Sunday.
Residents of the village of Kincraig, only a few miles from the wildlife park, awoke this morning to the primate roaming the streets.
Carl Nagle said he woke up this morning to his daughter screaming: ‘Dad! There is a monkey on the street!’
He told the Press and Journal: ‘It was 11am I was just having a chilled morning.
‘We went outside the house and there it was in the garden. It was amazing.’
The dad added that the monkey wandered around the garden before eating some nuts fallen from the bird feeder.
The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS), which runs the park, said it had already assembled a team to recapture the primate.
Members of the public have been urged not to approach it but to contact themwith information.
The zoo said in a statement on Facebook: ‘We can confirm one of our Japanese macaques escaped from its enclosure this morning.
‘Our charity has set up a team who are working to secure the monkey safely and as quickly as possible.’
