A DJ has been jailed for urinating on a cancer patient on Boxing Day.

Leigh Brookfield has been sentenced to 14 weeks in jail at Llanelli Magistrates’ Court when he appeared this morning.

He previously pleaded guilty to common assault.

Brookfield was charged with assault after posting a video of the incident to Snapchat while Peter Barton, 72, was talking about his prostate cancer diagnosis.

In the video Brookfield could be heard saying ‘sorry to hear that’ while he urinates on the back of the man.

The court heard Mr Barton cried when he later learnt what had happened to him after watching the video.

Brookfield posted an apology on Facebook at the time before deleting his account.

His final post said: ‘It’s just something me and the boys do when we are drunk and until watching the video back I didn’t realise that the nice gentleman next to me was going through health problems.’

In a victim personal statement Mr Barton said: ‘I couldn’t believe that someone could do that to another person.’

Mr Barton said his son had seen the footage and was disgusted when he heard someone turn to his wife and say ‘that’s the man from Facebook’.

In mitigation, it was heard how Brookfield was ‘appalled by himself’ and wished to apologise to the man.

His lawyer said there was ‘very little that can be said in Mr Brookfield’s favour’.

He said the jail term is a ‘wake up call for him’ and being in custody ‘terrifies’ Brookfield.

While he has been jailed for 14 weeks, Judge Mark Layton said he is entitled to a one third reduction because he entered a guilty plea.

He has also been ordered to pay £500 compensation, a surcharge of £154 and costs of £85.
