Woman, 27, dies after falling from van on 40mph road

A woman who died after falling from a moving van has been named as Leah Senior.

The 27-year-old, from Huddersfield, suffered serious injuries after plunging from a white Ford Transit travelling down a 40mph road in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, on Wednesday night.

Despite medical treatment, she was declared dead at the scene.

The man driving the van at the time, aged 25 and from Kirklees, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and drug driving offences. 

He was released on bail pending further enquiries. 

West Yorkshire Police today released an image of Leah as they are appealed for witnesses and dash-cam footage of the incident, which took place between 8.20pm and 8.45pm near to the junction with Hollin Lane.

More than 30 emergency service workers converged on the scene in Calder Grove.

Locals described scenes of ‘panic’ and ‘shock’.

One woman told local media: ‘I saw police put up a tent and knew it was a fatality. It’s disgusting. I don’t know what’s coming to the world. It’s really horrible to think about.’

Detective Superintendent Marc Bowes said: ‘We are continuing to conduct extensive enquiries into this incident in which a woman has lost her life.’
