A woman and two men allegedly trying to shoplift a Walmart abandoned a baby girl in their effort to flee cops.

Police officers responded to a report of a theft in progress at the Walmart Supercenter on the 4300 block of Byberry Road around 11pm on Thursday, NBC Philadelphia reported.

Security guards told the officers that they tried to apprehend the three suspects for shoplifting and that they all ran away from the store and left a three-month-old girl they had brought with them inside, according to investigators.

The infant was transported to Jefferson-Torresdale Hospital for evaluation and found to be in good condition.

Descriptions or photographs of the three suspects were not immediately released by police. It was not clear if authorities have identified them, or what their relationship to the baby was.

Cops believe they have identified the infant and have contacted one of her parents who they do not think was involved in the attempted theft and some of the suspects who abandoned her, anonymous law enforcement sources told The Philadelphia Inquirer on Friday.

Cops are searching for the suspects in Northeast Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

It is not known what the suspects were trying to take from the store.

Anyone with information on the incident is urged to contact the police department’s special victims unit.

It is the latest dramatic incident at a Walmart in the US.

Two years ago, a woman reportedly approached a mother at a Walmart in Crockett, Texas, and offered to buy her one-year-old baby for $500,000. The woman was arrested.

And in March 2021, a man who went shopping with a family member at a Walmart in Latham, New York, shoplifted a pellet gun from the store. The suspect, Daquan Forehand, 25, was released from jail on a cash bail and traveled more than an hour to the Walmart where he tried to use the pellet gun to steal two cars on the same day.
