A holidaymaker was put into a headlock and violently marched off a Ryanair flight by police after his yobbish behaviour forced the plane to make an emergency landing in Portugal.

The passenger, thought to be British, was dragged off the plane by around a dozen Portuguese police officers as other passengers watched in astonishment.

Footage of the incident shows several passengers with their phones out, watching in astonishment as the man struggles against the wave of police officers who arrive to subdue him.

When he continues to resist their efforts to remove him from the flight, one of them puts him in a headlock while the other grabs hold of his arm.

They then drag him kicking and screaming off the plane, allowing the rest of the passengers to continue their flight from Luton to Lanzarote.

‘There was a group of men who appeared to have been drinking who were bothering some female passengers,’ a passenger told MailOnline.

‘When it started to get a bit out of hand one of the stewards tried to intercede and ended up somehow getting knocked over.

‘At this point the captain gave a warning over the tannoy that unacceptable behaviour would not be tolerated and if it did not stop we would divert to Portugal.

‘But the commotion didn’t let up and 20 minutes later we were told on the tannoy we are landing in twenty minutes with no further info.

‘The man fighting in the video originally got off voluntarily but for some reason then got back on and was then forcibly removed by the police who got him in a headlock.

‘This man was one of several passengers who were removed,’ the passenger said.

‘It was quite shocking to see. We are all a bit shaken.’

He continued to scrap with officers even after being dragged off the plane

Some of the passengers can be heard applauding the officers as the man is dragged off the plane.

‘Bye bye mate!’ says one voice in the video, while a woman tells the police ‘Well Done!’

Additional footage shows the man still resisting arrest and struggling with the officers on the tarmac even after being removed from the plane.

Although the victim has not been officially identified, sources claim all the troublemakers were British.
