An XL bully owner has been jailed for 16 months after her dog viciously mauled a 12-year-old cyclist.
The boy was left with serious injuries after the attack in Oldham last October, as passersby attempted to intervene.
Armed police and paramedics attended to the scene, which saw witnesses using metal poles and brooms to try to fend off the XL bully – who then attacked another person.
Owner Paula Jenkins, 43, will now spend 16 months in prison after she admitted to being in charge of a dog that was ‘dangerously out of control’.
Dog Milo was seized by police and will be humanely destroyed after the horrific attack, and Jenkins will also be banned from owning a dog for five years.
The government announced the XL Bully breed is banned under the Dangerous Dogs Act as of December 31, 2023.
The breed has gained significant attention this year following attacks on both people and other animals.
One American XL Bully will be destroyed after it attacked its owner as he was having sex.
Scott Thurston, 32, was bitten by the two-year-old dog Hank at his home in Wales, on August 2.
Bodycam footage from the incident showed police arriving at the property and Mr Thurston attempting to muzzle the dog in the garden.
