A Subway restaurant customer allegedly threw a sandwich at a clerk after being enraged that it was not sliced in half.

Alberto De Barros, 54, ‘became upset’ with a store associate ‘after finding out his sandwich was not separated’, according to a probable cause affidavit.

De Barros had a verbal exchange with the associate, Cassandra Tia Pierre-Louis, and ‘began causing a disruptive scene’ on Tuesday, states the affidavit obtained by The Smoking Gun. Pierre-Louis said she would no longer serve De Barros, after which he made a phone call.

‘In the midst of Mr De Barros’ phone call and disruptive behavior, the sandwich was thrown at Ms Pierre-Louis,’ reads the affidavit. ‘Ms Pierre-Louis described being hit in her mid to lower body section by the sandwich.’

The customer 'was upset over his sandwich not being cut and advised he called the store manager in response to the service he received attempting to resolve the issue'.

Pierre-Louis followed De Barros as he stormed out of the store and video recorded his demeanor and noted down his license plate number. She told her manager and contacted the Martin County Sheriff’s Office.

The worker stated she did not grant De Barros permission to strike or touch her and planned to bring criminal charges against him. A fellow store associate witnessed the ordeal.

A sheriff’s deputy found De Barros at his home in Stuart, Florida, and interviewed him. De Barros admitted to being involved but said he thought he threw the hero at the counter instead of at Pierre-Louis.

De Barros ‘was upset over his sandwich not being cut and advised he called the store manager in response to the service he received attempting to resolve the issue’, the affidavit states.

Surveillance footage showed De Barros ‘swipe the sandwich off the counter which subsequently strikes Ms Pierre Louis’, it states.

De Barros was arrested without incident and booked into Martin County Jail. He has been charged with a misdemeanor count of battery. De Barros was released on Wednesday afternoon after posting a $1,000 bond.

His arraignment is slated for February 1.

It is far from the only altercation initiated by customers upset with their orders at fast food chains in the US recently.

In October, a Taco Bell customer allegedly shot an employee several times for giving him the wrong amount of change for his order. And in August 2022, a McDonald’s customer allegedly shot and critically wounded a worker at a franchise in Brooklyn over cold French Fries.
