Man who jumped ‘superman style’ at judge charged with attempted murder | US News
A felon who lunged ‘superman style’ over a bench and pummeled a judge in a Las Vegas courtroom has been charged in connection with the attack.
Deobra Delone Redden, whose jump at a judge last week went viral, appeared before a different judge on Tuesday and was charged with attempted murder against an older person in connection with the wild ordeal. Redden, 30, wore a medical-type face mask and orange mittens and was shackled and flanked by officers, FOX5 reported.
Redden last Wednesday launched himself at Clark County Judge Mary Kay Holthus, 62, interrupting his sentencing for a prior baseball bat assault. Holthus finished sentencing Redden on Monday.
A criminal complaint states that Redden also faces charges including battery on a protected person, battery by a prisoner, battery of an officer, intimidating a public officer and extortion, in relation to the attack on Holthus.
‘Once he knew she was about to sentence him to prison, (Redden) did leap over defense counsel table into the well of the courtroom, thereafter rushing towards the judicial bench and jumping over it “superman” style directly into Judge Mary Kay Holthus’s judicial space,’ states the complaint obtained by CNN.
‘Landing directly on top of her and immediately attacking Judge Mary Kay Holthus by grabbing her, pulling her hair, placing his hands around her throat and/or hitting her on the head.’
Redden on Monday faced Holthus in her Las Vegas courtroom – wearing a spit hood, orange mittens and shackles.
Holthus sentenced him to 19-to-48 months in prison and stated, ‘I want to make it clear that I am not changing or modifying the sentence I was in the process of imposing last week before I was interrupted by defendant’s actions.’
In the video, as Holthus denied him bail, Redden could be heard saying, ‘Nah, f*** that, bitch’, then flew over the bench and knocking her off her chair. Redden was quoted in court record obtained by KLAS saying, ‘judge has it out for me’, ‘judge is evil’, and saying he was having a bad day and was attempting to kill her.
Redden is next scheduled to appear in court on February 14.
