iPhone feature can warn you when snow is set to hit – here’s how to turn it on | Tech News
Your iPhone may start warning you when snow is set to hit as temperatures across the UK begin to plummet.
The weather feature installed on the smart phones provide real times updates and notifications when adverse weather is set to begin and end.
This has become particularly handy after the ‘freeze of the century’ has covered Britain in a blanket of snow and ice.

There is a yellow weather alert covering the North East, Yorkshire and the East of England until January 12.
The Met Office has also issued an amber cold weather warning across England until Friday, warning there might be an ‘observed increase in mortality across the population’.
Officials are mainly worried about those 65 or older and anyone living with certain underlying health conditions, with many struggling to keep their homes warm as the snow hits.
Health services in rural places are expected to be more overwhelmed this week.
How to turn on iPhone snow alerts:
- Go to Settings > General > Software Update to check your phone has at least iOS 15 or iOS 16.
- To give the weather app permission to use your precise location for accurate notifications, go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services and select ‘Always’.
- Allow the weather app to send notifications in Settings > Weather > Notifications and selecting ‘Allow Notifications’ including ‘Critical Alerts’ and ‘Time-Sensitive Notifications’.
- In the weather app itself, select the triple row icon in the bottom right of the screen, then select the triple dot icon to the top right.
- Select ‘Next-Hour Precipitation’ and then press ‘Done’.
Jason Kelly, the Met Office’s chief forecaster, said yesterday: ‘The transition to lower temperatures will be noticeable over the weekend. It will become rather cold next week with lower-than-average temperatures across much of the UK, accentuated by brisk easterly winds in the south.
‘As the prevailing weather conditions will be characterised by high pressure, a good deal of settled weather is likely.
‘Clearer skies and a marked reduction in precipitation are expected, although any showers that do occur are likely to be wintry in nature.
‘A combination of overnight freezing temperatures, saturated ground and calm winds mean increasing risks of frost, fog and icy conditions.’
