This is the moment a Russian teenager set fire to a warplane worth some £40 million.

For standing up to Vladimir Putin for his invasion of Ukraine, the 16-year-old boy now faces up to 20 years in prison.

He is accused of trying to destroy one of Russia’s Su-34 supersonic bombers that has an armoured cockpit with side-by-side seating for its two pilots.

Pro-war Telegram channels called for his ‘quick execution somewhere behind the fence of a penal colony’ and branded him ‘mummy’s saboteur’ for his offences.

Footage shared by the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine showed the unidentified person setting fire to the plane while giving a ‘sign of the horns’ hand gesture.

The video was said to have been shot at the Shagol military airfield in the city of Chelyabinsk, some 1,800 kilometers east of Moscow.

Ukrainian military intelligence claimed responsibility on January 4 for the attack.

‌’We can confirm that the enemy aircraft has been completely burnt out,’ said a source.

Security agency officers arrested the boy for fire damages of the warplane, also accusing him of arson attacks on railway tracks used by the Russian military in Dagestan.

He was detained for two months at a Chelyabinsk court for ‘attempting to commit sabotage’ on the warplane ‘on the instructions of Ukrainian special services’.

A video showed the teenager, originally from Buynaksk in Dagestan, with his face hidden at his custody hearing.

He now faces between 12 and 20 years behind bars if convicted.
