Girl, 5, stabbed outside Dublin school must ‘relearn everything’ | UK News
A young girl who was seriously hurt in a stabbing outside an Irish school will have to ‘relearn everything’, her family has said.
The child, along with another young girl and a boy, plus creche worker Leanne Flynn, were injured in the attack in Parnell Square East in Dublin on November 23 last year.
The five-year-old spent several weeks in paediatric intensive care.
Riad Bouchaker, 50, is accused of trying to murder the children. He is also charged with assault causing serious harm to Ms Flynn, who spent time in intensive care.
In an update posted on a GoFundMe page for the five-year-old, her family said she had entered the ‘third phase of her recovery’.
‘This will be the longest as she will relearn everything as a result of her injury,’ they wrote.
‘She has done really well thus far and the medical team is very happy with her improvement.
‘Once again, she is so strong and we are proud to be by her side supporting her, guiding her, and, above all, loving her every step of the way.’
Around £55,000 has been raised by the GoFundMe page so far.
The stabbing triggered riots in Dublin city centre, which saw around 500 people battle with police, loot shops and torch vehicles including a double-decker bus.
Authorities said the disorder was led by far-right individuals with strong anti-immigration views who believed the attacker was a migrant.
Bouchaker, of no fixed address, is also charged with three counts of assault causing harm, and the possession and production of a 36cm kitchen knife.
Meanwhile, detectives investigating the murder of schoolboy Harry Pitman on New Year’s Eve have issued a fresh appeal.
The 16-year-old died after what police described as ‘an altercation’ as crowds gathered in Primrose Hill, Camden, north London, to watch the display.
Three teenagers, aged 15, 16 and 18, arrested over the the murder have been bailed pending further investigation.
