Scaffolders get revenge by blocking in ‘rude’ driver who wouldn’t move | UK News

A group of scaffolders exacted the ultimate ‘petty’ revenge on a driver who refused to move his car to let them unload their van.

When Elliot Lockett turned up to a job at a property in Bloxwich, Birmingham, on Thursday, he noticed a man had parked his white Volkswagen in a bay about 6ft behind the truck.

The 23-year-old said he politely asked the motorist to move his vehicle because they would struggle to unload their 21ft-long poles without damaging the car or causing risk to public safety.

But when he refused, they made sure he regretted his decision to stay put.

Footage captured Elliot saying to the man: ‘Right buddy, that car can’t be parked there. Please can you move it? You can see we’re doing the work. If your car gets damaged…’

The driver quickly became angry and wagged his finger as he repeatedly told the scaffolder he wasn’t going to move, reports MailOnline.

‘I will tell you the law,’ he said. ‘I don’t fear nothing (sic). I’ve got all the documents.’

He then stormed off, according to Elliot, forcing the scaffolders to unload the huge poles at an angle and block the road temporarily. 

And that’s when the lads took the opportunity to get their own back.

They deliberately barricaded the car in by building a barrier right in front of it and along the side, making it impossible for the man to get out of the space.

When he returned one hour later, Elliot’s colleague can be heard telling the man: ‘I’ve done the barrier.’

‘What are you doing?’ the man shouted, to which Elliot then also said: ‘You asked us to put a barrier up, mate.’

Visibly furious, the driver then said ‘okay, I don’t care, you can do anything you want to do’ and slammed his door shut.

He threatened to call the police on Elliot and his workmates but no officers ever arrived – and 10 minutes later the scaffolders removed the barrier so the man could leave.

Elliot, from Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, admitted what they did was ‘petty’ but argued: ‘He was being petty, so we played him at his own game.

‘There was a plastic barrier already there but by the time we came outside the chap had moved it out of the way and parked up.

‘We were having to get 21ft poles out of an 8ft gap so it’s not really practical and there’s more risk to the car and the public.

‘It’s about common sense as well. Why would you want to risk your property getting damaged?’

The scaffolder said he’d asked the man to move his car before he filmed him and took the video to ‘cover my own back’.

‘He got quite irate and was point-blank refusing to move it and claiming he knew laws off the top of his head,’ Elliot added.

‘He told us we should have barriered the whole parking space off so that our barrier couldn’t be moved, so we barriered him in with scaffolding instead.

‘He wanted to try and ruin our day so me and the rest of the lads all had a giggle at him.’

Elliot shared the video on social media and it has divided opinion with some saying the man deserved to be blocked in while others believe they could have carried on working regardless.

Talking of other stuck drivers, a load of cars were stranded in floodwater earlier this week after acting like lemmings.

And a few months ago, a man got so stuck in a glory hole that firefighters had to pull him until he was free.
