Lotto winner Jane Park’s gangland ex Marc Webley gunned down | UK News
A convicted gangland gunman was shot down outside a pub on New Year’s Eve while out celebrating with friends.
Marc Webley, 36, was gunned down outside the Anchor Inn in Edinburgh just before midnight.
Jane Park, who won £1million in 2013 aged 17, has been left ‘devastated’ by the news and was in a relationship with Webley until last month.
He told close friends he was expecting an attack and carried guns around with him, the Daily Record reports.
A gangland source told the Record: ‘Don posted on his Facebook that Marc went the day he wanted, the way he wanted and then laid down the gauntlet by saying ‘come and get it’. There’s going to be wars in the city if Marc has been murdered.’
Jane posted on her Instagram story: ‘I can’t believe I’m writing this. We spoke yesterday. If I could cuddle you again and tell you everything is going to be OK I would give anything to do it, Marc.
‘The months we spent together, you taught me some valuable things in life and I’ll never ever forget you. I am absolutely devastated. The best bed for you is up there My Handsome.’
She previously wrote on December 17: ‘There’s nothing worse than being single on a Sunday.’
Webley’s older brother Don posted a picture of him on Facebook today and friends wrote their condolences.
A local resident told the Record: ‘I thought it was fireworks at first then saw all the blue lights, ambulances and armed police. It was bedlam just before the bells.’
Webley was cleared of two attempted murders at the High Court in Edinburgh after being accused of trying to ram a car off the road in October 2022.
He denied repeatedly slamming his car into a vehicle with Richard Hughes and Lyndsay McLaughlin in while travelling at up to 65mph.
Ms McLaughlin gave evidence but said she was unable to identify their attacker so prosecutors decided not to press charges.
Webley was jailed in 2006 for 11 years for attempted murder after being the gunman in a gangland-style ambush on a motorbike.
The victim Peter Simpson was shot in the back while Webley wore a balaclava in the attack and hit Peter with five bullets but only one hit him before speeding off on the motorbike.
Following the fatal shooting in Edinburgh on New Year’s Eve, a senior police officer said ‘everything possible’ is being done to find those responsible.
Detective Superintendent Graham Grant said ‘everything possible’ is being done to find those responsible.
‘This is believed to have been a targeted incident and our thoughts and condolences are with the family and friends of both men involved.’
‘Inquiries are at a very early stage to establish the full circumstances surrounding what happened, and while officers have already gathered CCTV and spoken to various people who were in the area at the time, I’d urge anyone with information who hasn’t yet spoken to us to come forward.’
He added: ‘In particular if anyone has private CCTV, doorbell footage or dashcam of the Granton Crescent/Road area around the time of the incident, please bring it to our attention.
‘This incident will undoubtedly have caused concern in the local community and officers will be carrying out extra patrols of the area and I’d like to reassure the public that everything possible is being done to trace whoever is responsible.’
