Storm hits all the places Londoners like to go for Christmas and New Year | UK News
The huge swathes of Londoners who abandoned the capital to return to their families’ homes during the festive period will be disappointed with the weather forecast.
Storm Gerrit is sweeping across most of the UK with several yellow weather warnings in place on Wednesday and Thursday – but it’s almost completely avoiding the capital.
Those hoping for scenic walks in the countryside between Christmas and New Year during their festive change of scenery might be disappointed by the forecast.
There are yellow warnings in place for wind, rain, and snow covering the south coast of England, almost all of Wales and Scotland, and most of the midlands and north of England.
The warnings came into effect at 6am on Wednesday and most will be in place until the end of the day – although some covering the north of Scotland and Wales will still be in place on Thursday.
A Met Office spokesman said: ‘Heavy rain brings the potential for disruption to travel and a risk of flooding.
‘Outbreaks of heavy rain will continue to move northeastwards across northern England during today, with the rain quickly easing and clearing from the southwest during the early evening.
