Sprout spared from pan on Christmas Day because it looks like a smiling emoji | UK News

A sprout with a smiling face has been spared from the pan on Christmas Day after two sisters noticed its unique grin.
Lois Pynn, 14, and younger sister Adelaide, 12, got the giggles when they spotted the happy vegetable as they were preparing Christmas dinner.
The siblings, from Rothbury, Northumberland, immediately popped the beaming sprout in the fridge for safe keeping.
Lois said: ‘Me and my sister were peeling the veg for Christmas dinner when we noticed one of the sprouts was smiling at us.
‘I thought maybe someone had drawn a smile on it with pen but when I looked at the others they had little black marks too.
‘I tried rubbing the smile off but it was part of the sprout. It was weird but made us all laugh.’
The sisters googled it to see what could cause the marks, and they are caused by insects – but disappear when cooked.
Adelaide added: ‘I couldn’t bear the idea of our little sprout being cooked so we’ve saved him from Christmas dinner. I didn’t like sprouts before but this one’s really cute. It’s like a smiling veggie emoji.’
The siblings plan to place their newfound sprout friend in a freezer to keep him as a ‘pet’.
