A 33-year-old woman has been arrested after a six-year-old boy was stabbed.

The child was stabbed in the back at a home in Whiston, Merseyside on Thursday (December 21).

He was rushed to hospital but there hasn’t been an update on his condition yet.

Police announced today that a 33-year-old woman had been arrested on suspicion of Section 18 assault.

Detective Inspector Alan Wood said: ‘Enquiries are in the very early stages of the investigation to establish what has taken place.

‘I would like to reassure everyone that while the exact motive remains unclear, we do not believe there is a wider threat to the community following this incident.’
