Amazing pictures of a Christmas night out are like renaissance paintings | UK News
It’s not unusual for revelers to enjoy a night out ahead of Christmas – but it’s less common for those pictures to turn out like actual works of art.
Incredible scenes of drinkers in Swansea town centre have gone viral this morning, and they’re reminiscent of a renaissance painting.
The last Friday night before Christmas has become notorious for alcohol-fueled antics, meaning it’s come to be known as Mad Friday or Black Eye Friday.
Pictures show a number of people being helped or arrested by police as large crowds of onlookers watch on.
The snaps are reminiscent of a similar drunken scene captured in Manchester on New Year’s Eve in 2015, which was compared to a modern day Michelangelo piece.
Photographer Dimitris Legakis said he was flattered to be compared to the Manchester photo, taken by Joel Goodman, as well as renaissance artists including Théodore Géricault.
He told The Guardian: ‘To make a painting takes a lot of effort and skill. What I have done is something you cannot replicate.
‘They are both unique in their own way. If what I have captured resembles a renaissance or romantic painting, I am extremely flattered.
‘You have to really try hard, to be aware of what might happen, to be in the right place at the right time.’
In one picture, a man is being held on the floor by police officers and placed under arrest outside Bambu Beach Bar.
The officers are surrounded by a group of young people, three of whom can be seen animatedly speaking to the policemen, while two women standing next to them pose for the camera.
In another, one of the men is now on the ground and taking a selfie in front of the officers, while another holds a policemen’s hat and a third poses for the camera in front of a large group of spectators.
The third photo displays a man and woman arguing with a police officer on the hectic street, whilst another woman lovingly hugs the pair of them.
Other pictures captured a man being dragged along the ground by police in handcuffs, and a woman vomiting in the street.
