Twin five-year-olds found dead by mom after she got out of shower | US News
A twin boy and girl, aged five, were found dead by their mother reportedly after she got out of the shower.
The mother told police that she left her wins down to take a shower on Monday morning and came back to find them cold and stiff on the living room floor of their apartment, sources told the New York Post.
She called 911 upon finding them not responsive, said Ben Gurley, chief of the police patrol borough in the Bronx.
‘When you go up and see two 5-year-olds laying on the floor unresponsive and cold at this time of the year, you can imagine what the family is going through,’ Gurley told the New York Daily News.
‘You can imagine what the mother and the father are going through.’
The mom found her twins lifeless in their home on East 175th Street by Weeks Avenue in Claremont Village around 11.20am, police said.
Emergency responders pronounced the twins dead at the scene.
Investigators said the children had been sick for a few days and did not go to school on Monday, according to WNBC. The details around their illness were not immediately known.
Neither child showed signs of trauma or foul play.
Their cause of death is to be determined by the city medical examiner’s office.
The children’s father, who was not home at the time, was questioned by police on Monday afternoon.
Their mother was taken to a hospital to be treated for shock and emotional trauma.
‘She’s not injured, but she’s emotionally destroyed,’ Gurley said.
The twins’ death a week before Christmas left neighbors devastated.
‘Every time they see you they would hug you,’ Jenny Rodriguez told WNBC. ‘It’s so heartbreaking.’
The household did not have a history of domestic violence, police said. Firefighters tested the air and did not detect carbon monoxide.
‘At this point, we have to do our job as far as the crime scene,’ Gurley said. ‘Hopefully, it’s not a crime scene. Hopefully, it’s an unfortunate tragedy.’
