It’s going to be a very wet day in the UK today, with no fewer than eight yellow warnings for rain dotted around the country.

But even more concerning are the many flood warnings that have been issued for different areas of England.

Parts of Dorset, Derbyshire and Yorkshire – among other places – are being told to look out for rising water from local rivers that could damage homes and businesses.

Take a look at our map to find out what places are likely to be affected.

There are 16 places currently on the flood warning list on Gov.uk, alongside 115 other places in England that have been given less severe flood alerts.

In Scotland, there are five flood alerts in place, while Natural Resources Wales has issued a single alert for parts of South Pembrokeshire.

The warnings come as heavy rain is expected to fall over several different parts of the UK over the coming day.

Among the cities under Met Office yellow weather warnings today are Birmingham, Belfast, Cardiff, Aberdeen, Dundee, Nottingham, Portsmouth and Plymouth.

Forecasters say the grim winter weather is likely to cause major travel disruption across the country today.

In Cumbria, the issues are compounded by snowmelt from the vast flurries that fell over the weekend and at the start of this week.

Met Office chief forecaster Neil Armstrong (not that one) has said some areas of eastern Scotland on higher ground may see up to 100mm of rain.

He said: ‘Our warnings are likely to be updated, so keep up to date with the Met Office forecast.

‘The rain will be falling on already very wet ground and where there is still lying snow in the northwest of England and parts of Scotland, snow melt will exacerbate the risk of flooding.

‘It is important to check for flood warnings in your area issued by your local environment agency.’
