Tests reveal what drugs were in chocolate sold to kids at Christmas market | UK News
Chocolate sold at a Christmas market that made customers ill was laced with hallucinogenic drugs, police have revealed.
Nottinghamshire Police launched a probe after receiving reports people became unwell after eating chocolate sold at a market stall in Mansfield last week.
Locals complained of feeling sick after eating chocolate in gold wrappers and sold in orange ‘Cali-Gold boxes’ last Saturday.
One 10-year-old boy was taken to hospital after the batch of chocolate had psilocin, found in magic mushrooms and THC.
A woman, 63, was arrested in connection with the case, she has since been bailed.
Chief Inspector Chris Sutcliffe said: ‘Forensic testing has been carried out of the chocolate recovered by police, with the majority showing no traces of drugs or anything out of the ordinary.
‘Quantities of the hallucinogenic drug Psilocin and THC – a substance found in cannabis – were discovered in a small number of the bars, however.
‘The small number of people who became unwell after eating the chocolate have all now fully recovered.
‘It is really important that anyone who still has any of this chocolate hands it into the police immediately so that it can be further analysed.’
