Van driver jailed for hitting and killing girl, 12, as she got off bus | UK News
A van driver who knocked down and caused the death of a ‘beautiful’ 12-year-old school girl as she got off a bus has been jailed.
David Pursglove, 35, ploughed into Lexi McDavid in a white Mercedes Sprinter on Princess Drive, Huyton, in June 2022.
She’d been on her way to a friend’s house but was hit at 3.30pm as she got off the bus.
And despite being given CPR by passengers, she later died of her injuries in hospital.
Police said Pursglove stayed at the scene and was charged with causing death by careless driving.
He pleaded guilty at Liverpool and Knowsley Magistrates Court in November and was today jailed at Liverpool Crown Court for eight months.
He was also banned from driving for two years and ten months.
Following her death, flowers and handwritten tributes were left by mourners, with one friend describing her as a ‘beautiful angel’.
Speaking after sentencing, Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson from Merseyside Police said: ‘Our thoughts remain very much with Lexi’s parents and the rest of her family at this sad time.
‘This has been a very traumatic time for Lexi’s family and I know that the incident has affected so many people in the community.
‘I would like to thank members of the public who rushed to help Lexi that day and who did everything they could to help.’
