A trainee anaesthetist is facing jail after he admitted that he stole drugs from his hospital.

Dr Jonathon Dean said that he intended to use some of them to aid sexual activity with his girlfriend, Tara Slade.

A judge told Dean, from Poplar, east London, that his career was in tatters and he was ‘finished as a doctor’.

The judge told Huntingdon Crown Court on Friday it was ‘plain (Miss Slade) was anaesthetised’.

He said Dean ‘knew full well he shouldn’t take drugs (from the hospital) or use them in this way’, but that he would not sentence him on the basis it was ‘all his idea’.

He took numerous drugs from Whipps Cross Hospital, Leytonstone, from December 2019 until March this year.

He was due to face trial, but later changed his plea, admitting nine counts of theft of drugs, including morphine.

He denied administering drugs to Miss Slade – Judge Philip Grey ordered that the count remain on the file.

Dean, who had previously been suspended on full pay, will be sentenced on February 16 and was released on bail.

However, the judge told him jail was ‘overwhelmingly the most likely outcome in these proceedings’.
