A dog owner has shared the horror of seeing her pet ‘brutally attacked’ while on a stroll in a busy Swansea Park.

Chihuahua Bella had to be put down after suffering severe injuries in Singleton Park, Wales, on November 15.

Bella’s owner, who did not want to be named, said the two dogs who attacked her were not on a lead when they approached.

She explained that Bella was bitten around the neck by one of the dogs and on the leg by the other, leaving her with ‘horrific injuries’.

She said: ‘Bella was brutally attacked. When the two dogs approached her, she sensed danger and started barking. Then one grabbed her neck and shook her and the other bit on her on her right leg.

‘Our little princess was severely injured. We rushed her to the vet but she didn’t stand a chance to survive. We had to put her to sleep due to the horrific injuries.

‘The whole family is still in shock and very heartbroken and devastated. We are regular walkers in Singleton Park and lots of people know her as the smallest dog in the park – she never had any issues with other dogs in the park. She really did not deserve to die like this.’

Bella’s owners now said they want to warn others to be vigilant while walking their pets in public areas.

She added: ‘I am concerned as Singleton Park is a public area and deemed to be a safe place for young children and dog owners. With what happened to Bella, if those two dogs were around other small dogs or young toddlers, it could present unpredictable risk and danger.

‘The particular breed that attacked Bella have been known to be aggressive and not child friendly – the owner should never let these dogs wander in a public area freely.

‘We want to bring awareness to anyone who walks in Singleton Park or any other parks in Swansea – please be mindful if you see these dogs and try to get away as far as you can.

‘Do not let Bella’s tragedy happen to any other dogs or young children again. RIP Princess Bella, we loved you so much.’

The incident has been reported to South Wales Police.
