Police have launched a hunt for a man who tried to push a woman onto Tube tracks.

The man, believed to have been wearing a puffer jacket, attempted to push the woman in front of an oncoming train at Leicester Square station at around 3.30pm on November 6.

British Transport Police (BTP) said the victim had been waiting at the platform when she saw the man in question arguing with an elderly man.

The man then walked over towards her and grabbed her by the arm before dragging her towards the tracks.

She briefly escaped from the man but was grabbed again and pushed towards the tracks as a train entered the station.

Two passengers intervened and managed to pull the woman away from the suspect, BTP said.

A man tried to pull a woman into the path of an oncoming tube train at King’s Cross Underground station last year before her friends intervened.

Arthur Hawrylewicz, from Cardiff, was jailed for 10 years for attempted murder.

Detective sergeant Mike Blakeburn said of the incident: ‘Had it not been for their brave actions pulling her from his clutches, we could easily have been dealing with a murder investigation.’
