Chechen warlord appoints son, 15, as head of his security service | World News
Chechnya’s leader has appointed his 15-year-old son as the head of his security service.
Warlord Ramzan Kadyrov gave teenager Adam Kadyrov the top spot just weeks after the schoolboy beat up a Ukrainian prisoner with his father’s approval.
As head of the leader’s security service, Adam will protect Kadyrov, 46, and other officials and VIPs and oversee hundreds of security guards.
Adam’s appointment follows that of his sister Aishat, 24, as deputy prime minister of Chechnya.
There are now five deputy premiers who are his close relatives in the Russian republic, which is almost as large as Wales.
Several Chechen ministers have congratulated Kadyrov’s son on his new appointment, appearing to support the bizarre move.
Minister of National Policy Akhmed Dudayev said: ‘I sincerely congratulate…Adam Kadyrov on his appointment to an important position in the security service of the Head of the Chechen Republic.’
Health minister, Adam Alkhanov, meanwhile, said: ‘Adam Kadyrov, despite his still young years, already has a wealth of practical experience, but most importantly, he has a strong spirit of a real and brave warrior.’
Adam’s attack on the prisoner came to light after his father posted a video of it online, boasting: ‘He’s done well, he behaved like a real man.’
The Putin ally even awarded Adam a Hero of Chechnya medal for his actions.
Russian law enforcement failed to take any action against the boy or Kadyrov for permitting it.
The 19-year-old victim of the assault had been accused of burning the Koran in Volgograd.
Adam is one of his polygamous father’s 14 children from three wives.
Britain and the US have imposed sanctions on Kadyrov who is accused of heading an administration involved in various criminal activities.
These include unlawful imprisonment, torture, female genital mutilation and extrajudicial killings of, among others, LGBTQ+ people.
Kadyrov’s former doctor and health minister Elkhan Suleymanov disappeared a year ago amid rumours he was assassinated.
Kadyrov blamed Suleymanov for poisoning him, it was reported.
Although Putin is an ally, rumours suggest Kadyrov is testing the Russian president’s patience.
Among other acts of defiance, Kadyrov has gone against a Putin edict that all Russian officials should drive domestically made cars.
A video shows at least 20 Mercedes and GMC cars which Kadyrov gifted to Chechen security chiefs.
