Ivanka Trump tries to use her kids as excuse not to testify in trial | US News
Former first daughter Ivanka Trump tried hard to avoid testifying in her father’s civil fraud trial – going so far as using her children as an excuse.
Ivanka in an appeal seeking to postpone her testimony referenced her three kids, who range in age from seven to 12.
‘Ms Trump, who resides in Florida with her three minor children, will suffer undue hardship if a stay is denied and she is required to testify at trial in New York in the middle of a school week, in a case she has already been dismissed from, before her appeal is heard,’ her lawyer said in the appeal filed on Thursday.
The motion was denied in a filing late that night.
‘Application for interim stay pending decision on the motion is denied,’ stated the order.
The order led to mockery of ex-President Donald Trump’s daughter online.
‘Ivanka has to find a babysitter,’ wrote MSNBC host Katie Phang on X (formerly Twitter).
The ex-president’s niece and frequent critic, Mary Trump, called Ivanka an ‘entitled a******’.
‘As always, Ivanka has her finger on the pulse of the hardships faced by America’s working men and women,” she wrote on X.
‘Who among us isn’t reluctant to leave our children with the governess when we have to travel out of town to testify in their grandpa’s fraud trial?’
Democrat activist Andrew Wortman shared Mary’s post and commented on X: ‘She has 6 nannies, 4 babysitters, a live-in staff, a mother-in-law who lives 2 blocks away and a sister-in-law who watches her kids whenever she needs her to. But yeah, better pause the trial for Princess Ivanka because “it’s a school week” and this creates “undue hardship.” GTFO.’
Ivanka is scheduled to testify on Wednesday, two days after the ex-president himself is slated to take the witness stand.
Attorneys for Ivanka, who formerly worked for the Trump Organization, argued that she has not lived or worked in New York since 2017 and that the court does not have jurisdiction over her.
‘Ms Trump has clearly availed herself of the privilege of doing business in New York,’ said Judge Arthur Engoron last week.
Ivanka has removed herself from politics since serving as a senior White House adviser to her father. When Trump announced his 2024 presidential campaign in November, she stated that she loved him but would focus on her young children.
On Monday, Ivanka shared that she celebrated her 42nd birthday ‘surrounded by friends and family’ and posted a picture of herself with her husband Jared Kushner, 42, and their children Arabella Rose Kushner, 12; Joseph Frederick, 10; and Theodore James, 7.
Trump on Friday, as his second eldest son Eric Trump testified for the second day in the fraud trial, lashed out at the judge for bringing his children into the case.
‘OUR COUNTRY IS UNDER THE HIGHEST LEVEL OF THREAT EVER, AND YET ALL THE DOJ & FBI WANT TO DO IS GO AFTER DONALD TRUMP AND HIS FAMILY,’ wrote Trump on his Truth Social platform. ‘SAD!!!’
