US tourist found dead in his hotel jacuzzi in Colombia | US News
An American tourist was found dead in a jacuzzi in Colombia, local authorities said.
Johny Jerome, a 45-year-old American national, was found dead on Halloween at his hotel in Medellin, Colombian newspaper El Tiempo reported, citing local police.
He was staying at the Provenza Lofts in the city’s El Poblado neighborhood, Medellin’s primary business and commercial district.
Jerome had traveled to the country with his cousin to celebrate his 45th birthday. His body was found two days after arriving following an ‘intense night of partying,’ the newspaper reported.
Jerome and his cousin returned to their luxury suite around 3.30am on Tuesday morning accompanied by two women.
The guests left around 5.00am, and Jerome’s cousin fell asleep. When he awoke hours later, he found Jerome’s body lifeless inside the suite’s jacuzzi.
Local police said there were no signs of physical trauma on Jerome’s body. An investigation into his death remains ongoing.
The strange death comes about one year after three American tourists were found dead inside an AirBnB in Mexico City.
The three Americans rented the room to celebrate Dia de los Muertos in an upscale neighborhood in the Mexican capital. A friend called in a wellness check after repeated attempts to contact them failed.
Mexican authorities later determined the trio had died from carbon monoxide poisoning.
In June, two more American tourists were found dead in a luxury Mexican hotel in El Pescadero, a seaside resort town in Baja California Sur.
The duo was found dead in their hotel room around 9.00pm on June 13. Like the other instances, their bodies showed no signs of trauma.
An autopsy later confirmed they died from intoxication from an ‘undetermined substance.’ Investigators believe this could have been caused by improper ventilation or carbon monoxide poisoning.
